A difficult problem for us as a society, no matter what our ethnic background as individuals ... and I don't think doing away with limits and treating kids as full adults is the best answer to the problem. Just my two cents' worth.
Absolutely. Parents not being parents is not limited to any one ethnic background. Those other parents my sister dealt with who didn't do anything about their kids were white.
Also white, was her employer who gave their son a brand-new sports car ... to replace the one he crashed in college. Every time that kid did something totally irresponsible, he was rewarded for it.
I have a 3 yr old boy who we teach to be polite, and respectful. If he refuses, he loses something he really loves. This will continue all through his childhood, but he will have respect, and wouldn't even entertain the idea of just hanging out in downtown at 10pm, or even asking whether he could! He is happy and knows the boundaries, and the consequences. I'm not saying he won't push them, but I am saying he will never get away with it, and he will always have respect for other people and their property. You don't need money, or need to live in a middle class neighborhood to know and teach right from wrong.
Everyday I see this thread move back to the top. I was hoping it would be done and drop down. Yes, there was one incident, yes people addressed how they felt about and yes it's something to be aware of. OTOH, this is old news, so it's time to let it go.
I think there are good kids and bad kids everywhere. Ignorant stuff like this will happen and can happen anywhere. (not that it's acceptable) I feel if it keeps getting brought up, people will be less attracted to visit downtown. Bottom line, when you go out, yes you need to be aware of your surroundings. Remember, this is an isolated incident that is unusual in Greenville.
I'm sure the forum demographic is very representative of Greenville population. Not all kids get the same opportunities or resources.
Very true

Just my 2 cents.......
Was expecting this from a regular poster here and you bid your couple cents. Straight to the point...It's not a isolated incident and these kind of trouble spots will continue as Greenville progresses (Fact). Please let us locals use this forum as a sounding board to express our concerns and opinions and this thread will run it's course. *wink..wink*
