That prime property, combined with the vacant lot across Broad Street, has GREAT potential. Anyone else think it is an excellent location for a permanent indoor central market?

Thats been my thought for awhile for the vacant lot on Main and Broad. That or a really cool music venue.
Between that building and City Hall .... we have the two leading contenders for ugliest downtown architecture ..... let's hope the building is torn down and something more aesthetically appealing goes up in its place.
Shadetree930 is not a fan of 60's or 70's building design.
We've had visions of that building combined with the new Clemson old Bowater bld and the garage next to it being torn down and something like City Creek Center in SLC being built in it's place. Imagine a mixed use outdoor lifestyle center with a flagship hotel (Imagine The W at Falls Park), residences, eating and shopping overlooking Falls Park? Anyone got a cool billion $$$ to lend me? Take the time to look at the pics; it's well worth it.
City Creek Center looks very nice, but there is already a Macy's at Haywood Mall, and not sure if Greenville is large and affluent enough to support a Nordstrom. So perhaps something on a smaller scale, but very nice idea. But city center malls either succeed fabulously or fail miserably, so very strategic planning and development is critical here. But I would love to see a nice mall with a Macy's and a Norstrom down there, although most malls developed in the Carolinas usually include a Belk as well.
A development like City Creek would only pull stores out of Haywood and maybe Greenridge. I personally wouldn't want a major shopping development near Main St., and especially not so near Falls Park. Just my opinion.
