I'm kind of surprised Trader Joes didn't locate on Pelham road in the Thornblade area. That seems more equiavlent to their location in Forest Acres in Columbia.
I don't think Forest Acres and the Thornblade area are similar at all. Forest Acres is more like Augusta Rd (old and close to DT )and Thornblade is newbie and not that close to DT.
I am not buying at all that the Greenville TJ's location is underperforming. Whole Foods has been in Greenville long before Charlotte and Columbia and its always busy too.

It is somewhat similar. Your Augusta example might be a little better but that is higher priced area overall than the Forest Acres area.
It isnt on Harbison or Two Notch or 378 in Lexington.
if they are underperforming, probably b/c they are too pricy.
i never been in one, i always thought they were kind of a pricy yuppie food place though. Not the case?
Ah I see. Makes more sense knowing you haven't been in one . Their prices are fair especially for the quality of the food imo. I loved them in Charlotte and Raleigh and was super happy when we got one here. I guess it depends on perspective in terms of what is considered expensive of course but I've never thought of them as expensive (and got food there while in college in NC and never thought twice about the price).
I definitely don't consider it solely a "yuppie" place. Very casual place that usually has great customer service.

reason i say that is b/c in where they are located in Columbia is where all the Whole foods, earth fare kind of places are. Shandon / Forest Acres does have some "yuppies".
i have no problem with yuppie grocery stores, i just don't go to them myself.
Why would Trader Joe's build in Five Forks when there's a location already a few miles down the road?
Exactly. The upstate is lucky to have one Trader Joes and one Whole Foods. In fact there are a ton of Greenville area residents that haven't yet so much as stepped FOOT in Whole Foods! Their management thinks they put the store in Greenville 6 years too soon. I've taken people from my neighborhood there who have lived here for decades to see it for the first time! I couldn't BELIEVE it.
I guess most people around here don't care about food quality or whether the food is loaded with GMOs, they are happy with their preservatives and chemicals in the food provided in your average grocery store as long as it is cheap and tastes good. It is really sad.
