...geez, this place is run by about 5-10 families apparently and they don't like competition. These families own virtually all of the buildings downtown. I feel like I just went into a time warp to around 1965. The contrast between Greenville and Spartanburg is overwhelming. If anyone has any insights on bringing Spartanburg into the present day that would be great. Extremely provincial and not interested in new things here. Just missing Greenville and not enjoying Spartanburg at all.
...we are expecting and we have folks that can help us in Spartanburg with the baby that we do not have in Greenville. It will save us quite a bit of $$$. Just sold my house off Augusta Road (sigh). We have owned two properties (one in Greenville where I have lived since 2001 and in Spartanburg). Yippee...

Hang in there! Once the little one comes, it will ALL be worth it. I DO understand the adjustment especially selling a house off Augusta Road..WOW...We just moved here from OK the end of January. We've had some adjustment ourselves, especially since having our catalytic converter stolen last Sunday...yep, in the city limits of Greenville. If we decide to stay here, we are moving to the suburbs, LOL. Oth, we walked to downtown Greenville today and enjoyed the BBQ festival.
....not sure I understand what you just typed. Just making a point that SBurg is backwards and GVL is forward thinking and the mentality in Sburg does not promote progress but just a good ole boy provincial attitude.

Yep, this is exactly what I got out of your post. Others have posted the same thing about Sburg.
You can get more bang for your buck in Spartanburg on housing. It isn't a bad little town. I don't[ think there is really much difference b/t the two other than Greenville has a better job market and bigger downtown.
Hmmm. That's debatable. Greenville just has more period. Nothing against Spartanburg though.
I just visited Spartanburg for the first time, really, today. The original purpose of the trip was to visit the Spartan Photo Center, but then we went on a photo shoot in Hatcher Gardens, ate at the legendary Beacon Drive-in and then walked around and took photos in the downtown area. We thought the downtown was very nice but noticed that a lot of the storefronts were empty.
From what I've heard and see, I don't think I'd like to live in Spartanburg, but it's not that far from Greer, where I do live, that I can't visit now and then.
I currently live in Spartanburg but am moving to downtown Greenville in August.
Where in the downtown area is best to look for housing? Are you renting or buying?
