So I have had to use J Verne Parkway in Greer for work a few times in the last few weeks and was wondering what the history is on it. Why was it built? What was the plan? It seems like it was meant to be like an interstate off shoot like I585 over in spartanburg but I was curious what the history was from someone that was around when it was first thought up and built.
Here is a link to future development plans for that area. GSP 360**|**Development If you click on "View property map" in the header it gives an overview. On bottom of page it has a link to each tract of land and best use of property. They are currently building a sub station on Victor Hill Rd. right off of J Verne Parkway for development around there. Plans to power Inland Port area moving forward
J. Verne Smith Parkway, South Carolina Highway 80, was conceived to bypass Greer on its southern side and to provide easier access to Greenvile-Spartanburg International Airport and BMW. It was not meant to be an interstate highway.
Speculation of extending it to South Bateville Road to connect with The Parkway has been discussed.

Thats interesting...Again I question the motive they had in building it. They could have built a connector to interstate and made that another woodruff road style area. But again they didnt which is just odd...anyway thanks for the comments and the information about it.
I may take speculation of possible extension in another direction: northeast towards Inman. I doubt it will happen anytime soon. The area between Green, Inman and Lyman is infilling with many residential communities.
