Expect a major announcement from BMW tomorrow. Harald Krueger (CEO of BMW), Henry McMaster and Lindsey Graham will be attending. Event starts at 9:30am.
X2 is a new model BMW is introducing for 2018. It would be logical for South Carolina to be the primary producer of the X2.
Really? The X2 is built on the front-wheel drive X1 platform (like minis), not the X3/5 platform products built in Greenville. Wouldn't the X2 need an entire new production line? No time for that with the launch imminent. The X1 is built in Germany and the Netherlands. I'd be very surprised to see X2s being built here.
With a new platform, would it take the place of an existing production line, or would it add a production line?
I'm pretty sure that unless they were to move either the X3/4 or X5/6 line it would mean a massive expansion of the facility. Given the Greer factory is the only place building those larger models and that the smaller ones are already made in Europe it seems very unlikely that the X2 would be built here in the near future.
