Are there any clubs, halls, or even country-type night-clubs where they play music that draws a West Coast crowd? I'm more interested in where there is really heavy West Coast participation than in places that might play one piece occasionally that you can dance to. I know there are lots of places that do that.

West Coast? You are looking for a place where Californians hang out?

I know the Handlebar features swing dancing every Tuesday night. I'm not sure if it is East or West Coast though. It always draws a good crowd and the Handlebar is a very cool place. Here's a link you might check out for more information.

Thanks Gaelcat. It's not quite the answer I'm looking for, as I believe Handlebar is totally music suitable for East Coast Swing dancing.

This is a dance-technical question. Someone who knows what West Coast Swing is and where its danced a lot will answer sooner or later, and to those who wish to answer regardless, thanks for your input!

I guess saying just "Dancers" in the Title was insufficient to select the target audience. Sorry about that.

And if its sufficient but you just want to respond to threads regardless of your expertise, well that's how your "reputation/posts ratio" gets knocked down, because those responses hardly ever get a positive rating. Thanks for those responses too, for sometimes a joking response makes someone's day and I've sure read dozens that I'm glad I stumbled on.

Yes, I suspected the Handlebar tended more to East Coast but I thought you might find some connections on the link I posted to assist in finding what you are looking for. Paul Hoke is very knowledgeable about area swing (all kinds), has danced professionally, teaches classes in the area and would most likely be able to steer you in the right direction. His e-mail is Paul@SwingReview.com.

I don't know the area much but maybe you could find a place that does some shag. It wouldn't be exactly the same at least the music tempo and movements would be closer than anything else

Thanks mcatp! I think you're right about the tempo and movements. The "feel" of the music is different, but this would be a good compromise!

Thurx, My wife and I are WCS dancers. We are a smallish group here in Greenville. There is a large Shag community though. We dance where they dance. The music has the same type rhythm although I would much prefer dancing to what they play in the WCS clubs in CA or TX. Anyway, There is a Holiday Inn at the intersection of Augusta Rd and 85. We dance there on Friday night. They also play music on Saturday but not many people show up. I have been told the same group dances at a on Pleasentburg called The Phoenix on Wednesday night but we've not been out there yet. You can email us direct at roger@swingbydesign.com. We can chat or talk further from there. I will let you know all we know and have done to improve the WCS here in Greenville.

Thanks, rogercinsc! I think the H Inn is what I'd heard about before, forgot the name, and have been looking for. I'll give it a try, and check into The Phoenix too? Anyone been to The Phoenix?
