A full-on Walmart down where the former Community Cash on Augusta is would be a fine idea, too.. I'm not some big Walmart flag waver or anything, but.. It's just an area that could stand some development and is really pretty wide open for it. So long as it is geared to the residents.

That Community Cash.. I know I saw something about a club trying to open in that space.. Word I heard is that the people who were starting it had 'legal problems'.. Meth from what I heard.. Can't say whether that's accurate or not. But, that whole center needs to be demolished.

Funny you mentioned that.
I really have thought for years a Walmart Supercenter and a few hotels/restauants end up on the former Movie Drive In property across I85 from Home Depot. So far only a Waffle House across from Spinx/BK there. That Home Depot on S.Pleasantburg stays very busy. They have really built out that land that fronts 85 there. Now what about the property across the way.

I do not know if anyone recalls Ingle's on Augusta Road at Potomac Avenue where Badcock Furniture & More is now at Potomac Square Shopping Center. I do not recall when exactly the store was open. I do remember seeing shades of Ingle's red, orange and yellow coming off when the space was retrofitted from Heilig-Myers to Badcock Furniture & More. That would be a good location for a supermarket again.

Walmart would do well with a supercenter on Augusta Road, either at Interstate 85 or in the Moonville community.

I know exactly where you're talking about. The shopping center with Carolina Fine Foods in the parking lot. Didn't know there was ever an Ingles there, tho. That had to have been closed prior to 1991, because I was working in that area at that time and it was a furniture store then. Somehow I always wind up working in or near Cracktown.

There used to be a Capri's just down the road from it a little bit. And Fiddler's Roof I noticed when driving through the area the other day has been closed down (apparently for a while).. Think I saw some work happening at that building.

I presume that Piedmont Manor is still there.. Which at the time, back in the early to mid 90's was a housing project, and a bad one at that. It always amazed me that it sat literally a stones throw away from Chanticleer and the million dollar homes there. And across Augusta Rd from some million dollar homes, too, for that matter.

Moonville has been built up a little bit. Used to be there was nothing down that way.. Now with The Matrix and other parks, there's quite a bit of business down there, but you're still either going way up White Horse or to Woodruff Rd or even over to Simpsonville for a Wal-Mart.. The Piedmont Manor area.. I guess that single Bi-Lo at Pleasantburg and Mauldin Rd is the only option that's close.

The Waffle House on.. I think it's actually located on Pleasantburg, and I am talking about the one down at 25 and Pleasantburg, not the one across from G-Tech. That's probably more a relocation than a new location. For many, many years, there was the one that was basically in the Parking Lot of the Holiday Inn on 25 (Which is now.. Comfort Inn?) and the cops were there every Saturday night when the Elite Ghana, which was a club on Frontage Rd closed for the night. The Denny's on Pleasantburg was much the same way (Is "Skittles" now)

Hardee's at 25&85 was lost when the road was redone. Used to be a Dixie Diner in what is now a Denture shop(I think).. Bojangles closed and was torn down next to the old Waffle House (not DIRECTLY next to, but..). There's just a whole lot of opportunity to do something nice and build that area up.. It's a shame that noone is doing it. Hell, I remember when the porn shop there, Pandora's Box, was a day-old bakery. Flowers, perhaps.

I can't even think of a Dollar store down that way.. Meaning 85&25. Perhaps there is one I'm just not thinking of.. Seems you could take from where you'd turn onto the frontage rd (as if you were going to the Camelot Inn) up.. That used tire place, the "Cash for Gold" place.. Tear all that down and build a center with a supermarket and a dollar store in it. Would fit the community, fill a need and clean up some nasty looking places.

Another place.. At one time, it was a Park Inn.. Up at.. Well, the other 25&85.. White Horse and 85. Does anyone know what that place is now? Is it just abandoned or what? I've driven by a few times, and I see cars there, but.. It doesn't seem like it's a hotel.. Maybe they're at the little outbuilding on the property?

Speaking of that intersection.. When there was a 66 station there.. They had an incredible greasy spoon restaurant in it. Great 3am food.

I do not know what store location number this Ingle's was. Ingle's numbered each new store in sequential order until the 1990's. It and the former East North Street stores could have been #18, #19, #20, #52, #54 or #59.

Augusta Road at Interstate 85 was not a decent area years ago. I think it has improved some, but still has ways to go to be decent again.

It was my understanding that Bloom store located on Augusta Road near 85 because it is a high income area.

They figured wrong. It is not a high income area at all. People in the higher income area of Augusta Road (at least a couple of miles from that location), will not go in that direction. Bloom did not do their homework.

Maybe but a Bi Lo and Home Depot nearby have done ok and it would hard to believe those get no business from the nearby golf course pepole and augusta road people. Given Bloom stores failed all over, it appears to more about the store itself and no so much the location. Or all of their stores were in bad locations.

Parkins Mill/East Parkins Mill areas have $million+ homes - the closest home improvement store (I live in Gower, off Parkins Mill) is Home Depot on S Pleasantburg (Lowes at Greenridge is too far). Yes, Bloom failed because of poor execution and a very unfavorable location (my go to grocery stores are Publix on Pleasantburg [under renovation] and Fresh Market on Antrum).

I remember a lifestyle center was planned on Clemson Blvd several years ago before the recession but it was canceled because they lost several of the anchors -Dillards signed on to Anderson Mall instead and Kohls, Dick's Sporting Goods, Ulta to another center.
The recession killed it. It was 2008. Thats why Dillards went to the mall, that and Belk agreed to close their mens and home store for the Dillards space. But I'd like to see Red Robin, Buffalo Wild Wings, Jasons Deli, DSW, Jo Ann Fabric, Panda Express, Jared, Carrabbas, Total Wine, Chuck E Cheese, Brixx Pizza, Barnes N Noble, PF Changs, Marshalls, World Market, Carolina Ale House, TGI Fridays, Sticky Fingers, and Qdoba I think Anderson could handle. Add in the smaller stores like White House/Black Market, Loft, Urban Nirvana, Chicos, Yankee Candle, J Crew, Urban Outfitters, Jos A Bank, etc.

Beltline is supposed to go in the empty land behind Golden Corral/Staples/Same Club. They paved a road to connect Brown Road to Fritz Drive. Its all zoned commercial and theres enough room. The "BL Plaza" sign has been sitting beside Golden Corral for years (or as long as I can remember). Theres also some available lots still at Anderson Station.

Or they could revive the lifestyle center at exit 19 plans or redevelop the mall. Either way, Anderson has the demographics and income and regional draw to attract these stores, but Anderson is always slow in getting things into action. It took 4 years just to build the 3 mile connector. It'd be good to make BLP happen, then we wouldnt have to hop on 85 to Gville every time.

Food Lion failed on poor execution using and continuing failed business practices over gradually expanding throughout the upstate. None of the new stores, mostly located in pharmacy deserts, did not have pharmacies. Bloom, which was focused on quality and technology, could not afford to keep up with increasing prices to keep technology current. All stores maintained concerns of lacking quality, service and value.

Food Lion was smart to enter underserved communities including Pelham-Batesville; Holland Road at Bridges Road, Mauldin; and West Georgia Road, Simpsonville. These locations would have been better served by another established supermarket (Bi-Lo, Ingle's or Publix).

I doubt Food Lion has a positive outlook in the years ahead. Publix is opening stores in North Carolina. Kroger will use its banner and Harris Teeter to infill into western North Carolina and possibly upstate South Carolina. Walmart will continue to open supercenter, Neighborhood Market and Express stores where needed. Food Lion struggles against these competitors, have closed stores and have exited markets completely.
