Doesnt UPS have a hub at CAE? Maybe CAE can espire to become like air freight hub like Memphis with FED EX? The residents in Lexington may protest the late night flights though...
CAE, as well as other airports, lost out on the big FedEx hub to PTI in Greensboro a couple of years ago.
I am so sick of these Columbia politicians trying to stop GSP and Charleston from landing Southwest Airlines. Oh wait...nevermind.

Sadly for Columbia, there isn't much the local government can do to lure more airline service. Columbia has to become a destination. If Columbia were a destination, Southwest would have chosen to fly there, along with Greenville and Charleston.
Sounds like Columbia simply does not have the market for a major airport. All the money spent, all the talk, and the fact remains that airlines need to fill planes and if the people aren't here to do that, the airlines will go elsewhere.
This guy also says that GSP is going to have a hard time with Southwest, needing to grow its passengers by 1/3 to support them... Does he have ANY idea of how many people currently drive to ATL and CLT for flights?
Then again, he mentions CAE needs to focus on business travelers. How exactly will that help? The point is not to just get people in the doors, it's to get the prices DOWN! They're willing to pay fares because companies are paying for it. The average citizen/leisure traveler isn't going to gain by not having a low cost carrier. But, yea, CAE will be fine... now cut him his check for his insight.
Then again, I'm not the expert, nor do I have to worry about CAE's fares. I've got GSP. Carry on, Midlands.
LOL. What an idiot Boyd is. He obviously has never heard of Allegiant or Independence Air. Whatever he's smoking, tell him to either quit smoking it or pass some over here. If Southwest didn't think they could be successful at GSP without incentives by the way, then they wouldn't have come here in the first place. Oh and newsflash: Southwest has NEVER pulled out of a market they have gone into. They do their homework before deciding whether to go into a new metro area.
What I don't get is the hope some have that CAE will fall.
Maybe it's because CAE tried to kill CHS's and GSP's chance at landing Southwest Airlines. Good thing that plan failed.
