Maybe it's because CAE tried to kill CHS's and GSP's chance at landing Southwest Airlines. Good thing that plan failed.
What goes around comes around.
The whole Boyd plan is hysterical. "Just bring in larger planes to lower the fares".
Hello....you have to have people to fly on those larger planes.....people are not flying from CAE, the whole reason Columbia has small planes now and is fourth in passenger numbers in the state. What business travelers are flying regularly to Columbia? Certainly not state government officials or USC students. Ft. Jackson personnel maybe a little.
Apparently, CAE is back to sucking off the taxpayer and trying to get a 10 million federal grant to help subsidize airlines. Guess they can't do it on their own. The story of Columbia......rely on taxpayer dollars / government. How sad.
CAE got pissed off when GSP and CHS tried to use tax incentives to land Southwest which thankfully weren't needed but now they think it's ok to use tax incentives to bring in lower airfares themselves. Talk about hypocritical. I'm sick and tired of the federal government wasting our tax dollars on stupid things like this.
Those are federal aviation dollars, the dollars GSP and Charleston should have gone after instead of thinking it was ok to have Midlands taxpayers ponying up for something that in the opinion of every Greenville booster on here is going to hurt the Midlands.

Neither GSP or Charleston received any tax dollars. Southwest chose to enter both cities with NO taxpayers subsidies. Why can't Columbia land more air service without subsidies?

But you thought it was OK when state government wanted to use incentives for airlines for Greenville and Charleston? It's really hard to take anything you say seriously when you're "talking" politics.
The fact of the matter is that the South in general can't keep heavily relying on incentives for economic development (whether it be airlines, BMW, Boeing, etc.) forever. We despise welfare for individuals but love it for corporations. Our days are numbered.
Spend, spend, spend...that's the Democrats way of life. What's another $10 million for the Columbia Airport?
No, that's the federal government's "way of life," period. If you're just blaming it on Dems, then you haven't been around for very long. Furthermore, do you even know whether DOT grants are considered deficit spending or if they are paid for? You probably don't.

Duh, I was talking about the fact that GSP and Charleston wanted money from the state and threw a temper tantrum when Midlands lawmakers didn't want Midlands tax payers to have to pay for something that Citydata Greenville boosters say will ruin air service to Columbia. CAE is asking the right funding source for the money.

The Federal government is just plain broke/busted/out of moolah. Have you watched the news? CAE is not asking the right funding source......Columbia and CAE should work on getting private business to set-up headquarters and facilities in the city so airlines could fly to CAE without government support.
