On this past Wednesday I had to qualify on the Beretta M9 service pistol. In the Marines, this qualification includes a 10 minute slow fire from the 25 yard line, and a series of single-action and double action and reloading drills from the 7 and 15 yardline. You can fail to qualify, or qualify marksman, sharpshooter or expert. I qualified sharpshooter which is pretty standard for me. I've never failed to qualify, nor have I ever qualified marksman or expert. Always sharpshooter.

Usually this is a 3 or 4 day range, but the one I fired was a 1 day range. They do these where the presumption is that shooters possess a competent baseline with the Beretta. When I got home, my wife asked me how I did. I told her my score and commented that while I am glad I am consistent, I wish I could get over the hump and shoot expert. That's when she said it.

"Maybe you should go get the civilian version of that gun and practice with it instead of your 1911s."

Now the civlilan version, the Beretta 92fs, is NO replacement for a 1911. It is not a "must have" by any means for a gun collector. But it is a nice gun, accurate, and easy to shoot. Plus 9mm ammo is inexpensive and plentiful. But all of that is irrelevant. What makes this so awesome is the thought process behind the suggestion.

Regardless of the style of gun in question, the point is that my wife, without prompting from me, suggested I go out and buy another gun. Who cares what kind of gun it is? Just the fact that she thinks that way is good enough for me.

Awww that's awesome Kudos to your wife! My husband (also in the marines) did his pistol qual about 6 months back but he was out at the range for weeks (he was doing a coaches course).

I keep asking my husband to buy ME a gun, so I can go to a civilian pistol range from time to time, but so far he hasn't got around to it

Tell your wife to keep up the great work being the considerate wife she is!

Sounds like you married well. I married well too, among other things my wife has also told me to go buy a new firearm (mine was a Winchester M70 in .30-06.) Enjoy your new 1911 and be sure to give your nice wife flowers (or a case of shells, or chocolate, whichever she prefers) from time to time to let her know just how much you appreciate her

Nice.

First, thanks for your service. Like any other form of rote exercises your accuracy will be improved by practice with a similar (though not identical) instrument.

Make sure to let that woman know you appreciate her support
