Hey yall gotta question:does anyone own a ptr91(hk91 clone)? with the recent run on all AR15 gear the price of ARs and its parts ammo and mags have skyrocketed so thinkin on getting a ptr91 instead..they sell for 1200 but mags are 2-10 bucks a piece so itll end up being bout the same price as an ar15 but lot more practical and reliable..i could hunt big game with open sights out to 300 easy enough...plus 223 ammos now bout equal with 308..

to you who own one,how you like it? I know the hk91 aint perfect but its pretty much a 308 ak47,very tough..reasonably accurate and cheaper then fal or m1a or ar10 and im tight on money...I could buy 20 mags for 50 bucks or 2 fal,m1a or ar10 mags..id rather buy a cheaper non perfect gun now so I can practice and have more money for practice ammo

.223 is only on par with .308/7.62Nato ammunition right now because of fears of a ban. If prices return to their pre-November places, .308 ammo will still be 2x the cost of .223.

Just saying.

I'm not familiar with the ptr91. I do have a CETME that is clone of one of the HK's, however. I've had it for about 7 years and have never fired a shot through it. I can't believe it would be close to either my M1A or my Armalite AR-10, as far as accuracy is concerned. I only paid about $500 for it with twelve magazines, but I think you get what you pay for, it feels like a club. One of these days it will be good trading material.

I have a friend who swears his PTR 91 is just as good quality as an HK 91. I've only heard good things about them, especially compared to other flat-out horrible HK 91 clones on the market (like Century or Special Weapons)

Honestly the HK 91 wasn't the greatest gun in the world anyway; they only got crazy-expensive because of the importation ban. There are much better .308 guns on the market.

I bought my Cetme several years ago, it shoots reasonable well, it can keep under a 2" group at 100 yards with no problem. It is not designed for match shooting. The Cetme, the PTR91 and the H&K91, and other clones are designed for combat. To hit a man size target out to about 300 yards, and put that target down. The normal price of .308 ammo is as indicated 2X that of .223; the .308 is much closer in impact and damage to the 7.62 X 39 bullet. If you are looking for precession shooting, I would go with a Remington, Savage, or Winchester or other bolt action rifle. If you are looking for a combat type of shooter, then the PTR91 should be fine.

Do these have the fluts cut into the chamber for extraction? Do you get the zebra strips on the cases after shooting them? I had a Cetme that did this and did not care for the design.

I think it's a good choice, as long as you don't care about mounting a scope or other optic. I've never had one but handled them at gun shops. Felt very heavy to me. I'm used to M1As. I've read that are ways to deal w/ the brass if you reload. The magazines are very good--hell for stout, and the mag is usually the first thing to go t**ts up on any semi-auto. I bought 50 of the mags years ago just because I got a good deal on them. I still have them stored away, even though I never bought the rifle.

I have decided to get a PTR 91 GI model soon, so it will be my next purchase. I decided on it because it is 7.62 Nato/.308 chambered, magazines are dirt cheap and good quality and there is plenty of surplus and spare parts to be had.

I'd be careful of HK clones.

There's only "1" HK.

Original HK 91's are $4000 which is a bit much for me for one gun.

The PTR's have had any bugs they had worked out of them and the GI model seems to run reliably by all reports.
