I think so. I typically buy the best kit on the market and train with it. Am I the best? Nah. But I'm good enough for today, and will be better tomorrow.
I don't like to brag, but during target practice and hunting, I hit the mark. I even tried a soda can at 150 yards with a .22 open sight, .270 with scope, and 5.56 in irons. Needless to say my wife and kids had a new sense of respect.
You can never have too much practice and discipline.
I remember back in the 80s I had a Winchester 30-30. I shot a target at 100 yards with the open sights. Out of a box of 20 I got 7 bulls-eye. The rest was very close.
This was a darn accurate rifle because at 50 yards I could light a match.

I have a varmint rifle. A 22-250 (about 4000fps muzzle velocity) with a 16x scope. I can reliably nail a gallon milk jug at around 200 yards with a tripod rest.
If I was any good at calculating gravity, wind etc the rifle is supposedly accurate out to 400 yards.
In a sport where people regularly shoot $6,000 Open guns, and $5,000 Limited guns, the price of a Factory Sig isn’t at all prohibitive. A newbie may buy a Glock 17 instead, due to the price, but if he stays with the sport and upgrades, the price of a Sig isn’t a deterrent. In fact, Sigs best offering, the 320 X5 Legion, currently runs $899.
Hammer fired Sig pistols (think P226) have three big strikes against them. Trigger quality, light weight, and high bore axis. However, Sig’s striker fired pistols, with the best example being the 320, are much better, and will likely show up more. The 320 X5 Legion is fantastic, and you will see a ton of them in Production, and in Carry Optics (it’s MRDS ready from the factory) and is significantly heavier than previous Sig offerings due to a tungsten infused polymer frame. It probably won’t take over top popularity from the CZ Shadow 2, but it’s much better than previous offerings.
Just about everyone who does competitive shooting has better skills than me, and probably a better sense of what characteristics make a handgun suitable for gunfighting as well. That being said, many features that are unimportant in competition can be critical for a carried self defense weapon such as safety features (drop-safe, etc), lack of edges that snag on clothing, easy to find safety, comfortable to carry, ease of concealment, and corrosion resistance.
15 rounds .... about a second per .... with a little luck ... maybe 10 seconds ... probably 12 second average using my VP9.
Jerry Miculek I am not. He can get off 5 rounds in about half a second. Stupid fast.
Google "Bill Drill." Easy to set up (only requires a single target). Goal should be around 4 seconds when you're starting out.
Despite its simplicity, it's a GREAT drill that requires working on a lot of skills to do it well.
