I’d some how mount it on a pintle and have a carriage to haul it around. Like a Krupp mountain gun or one of those old Warsaw Pact weapons. As to why would someone would want one. Same answer as why someone needs a car that goes faster than the speed limit. Just because FREEDOM.
I agree, but with limited funds I would go for a traditional British type double rifle, you might get a decent used 475 #2 for this level of expenditure. I mean at some point you transition from a rifle used by a single shooter to a crew served weapon. The 20MM is getting close to the latter.
Maybe I make more of offhand ability than I should, but any rifle that is so damn long and heavy I can't even shoot it offhand, is just too damn long and heavy, IMHO.
To be clear, I'm not saying anyone should be denied ownership of such a cannon if they meet the requirements to own it. I'm just saying in a world of economic reality, as a fairly prosperous gun guy, I would spend the $15K or so some other way. High end shotgun, high end rifle, Python, whatever.
I have to admit I am a blued steel and walnut kind of guy. If you are more into black guns, well, carry on then.
I've told my neighbors that the gunfire they complain about hearing is the sound of freedom and they can use my range if they want to, just stop at the house first.
I still say I would spend the money on a more usable gun, a more practical gun. You could get a high-end double 12 gauge shotgun for this money easy, a good field gun would work for sporting clays and for hunting all sorts of birds and small game. My local Bi-Mart has a reasonable selection of 12 gauge ammo.
I'm not certain if a 20mm uses the same primer as a 50 BMG or not, if it's a bigger primer, good luck finding any to handload. The powders used are probably mostly unique to 20mm, good luck finding them either. And loaded ammo is going to be quite expensive. If you can find it. I have a Hollywood turret press, they are out of print for several years, but, I got mine, it would work fine for 50 BMG and probably would load the 20mm.
Actually if the itch you want to scratch is for a big rifle, how about a 50 BMG? Not really very practical either, but more than the 20mm.
Ya, my .50 cal was just ridiculous to use. Single shot, weighed almost 40 lbs and not meant to hunt with. Sold it to my Cuz in case I still want to borrow it. It was a show stopper at every range though.

I keep hearing arguments about practicality and all the other things one could buy. Nobody is answering OP's questions. If he wants to PM me I can explain the process. There is to much estrogen on this thread to explain. What do you people not understand about liberty? What is so complicated?
Altho, the depleted uranium ammo is probably hard to get. And even harder to buy...
But, if you wanted to "clear out" a range, that would be the way to do it.
Now THAT would make a great deer gun.
