Wondering what you guys tip your hairdresser for a haircut? Color?
Is it a percentage, or do you have another way of deciding?
My Chicago suburbs hairdresser charged me $170 today for cut, color roots, some sort of ?glaze treatment, highlights, blow dry. I was there for 3 hours. But he cut/processed 3 other people while I was there.
I have to go back for root touch ups every 6 weeks (?$70 - which seems so high to me).
These prices are killing me, and laying out another 15-20% tip seems too much. But I want to do what everyone else agrees is fair.
If the lady is really nice and talked to me while she was doing my hair (like a girlfriend conversation), I'll tip between $3-$5.
But if not, I'll just tip $1-$2.
Now THIS shocks me. I am surprised you get any more appointments there, unless you go to a "Supercuts" where cuts are 10$ or so. I am wondering if you are elderly. I know many seem to tip this low.
I got my hair done at an Aveeda salon yesterday. After a summer in the pool and sun, my blonde hair (its long and thick) was a mess, very bleached out, washed out color-- I was a straw head.
She did a double process and made it a strawberry blonde with blonder highlights. Also, a good cut. I am FABULOUS
It was $175--I tipped 20% for all her work plus I was in her chair over 2 1/2 hours. This was a one time thing- Next time, I wont need so much correcting, so know it will be a lot less time work and money.
Wow..that's a lot of money for a haircut. Is your style complicated? I would shop around unless money is no problem for you
When I am in FL I tip 15%-20% depending on what I have done and how well the service was. My local girl in TN only charges me $8.00-
$10.00 for a haircut. I usually tip her $5.00 or 50%. She is very" careful with my hair.
I dye my own hair. I really can't see spending a fortune for something I can do myself.
You can also check into being a hair model for a cool new do. I was one for Loreal when I was younger. I got a cut, a new style, and three colors blended in for free.
I personally don't spend a ton of money at my salon, so tipping up to 20% doesn't really put me out all that much. I don't go to a cheap chain salon at the moment (although I've used GreatClips type places in the past, typically with serviceable results), I go to a local salon operated by a woman who lives in my neighborhood. It's an Aveda salon, and accordingly priced, but due to my hairstyle, I only get very infrequent cuts. I also generally do my own color, except in the case of highlights, which I will pay for, but I only get once or twice a year if at all.
