Hey Tidewater Virginia. For those of you interested in something cool to do this weekend, come on out to Great Bridge Lock Park in Chesapeake, VA to commemorate the 235th anniversary of the Battle of Great Bridge. Reenactors will be portraying the British forces of Lord Dunmore and the early Patriots in a battle for control of the Virginia Colony. It should be a lot of family-friendly fun and a chance to enjoy American history without having to read those pesky books...
Check out what the NHS is saying about it:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Annual Reenactment of the Battle of Great Bridge
December 4-5 2010
Great Bridge Lock Park, Chesapeake VA

The Naval Heritage Society will be participating in the annual reenactment of the 1775 Battle of Great Bridge on the weekend of December 4-5, 2010. This year the Society will be returning for their 5th consecutive year at the venue and they’re planning for a great event. Highlights will include Royal Marines conducting a naval assault, musket firing, and a real 3-pounder cannon. The historic battle of Great Bridge marked the end of British colonial rule in Virginia with the expulsion of the last Royal Governor, Lord Dunmore. Festivities will include camp and field demonstrations, display of historic artifacts from the battle, character actors, and hands-on activities for the whole family.

The Naval Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 public educational organization dedicated to exploring the US Navy and Marine Corps Core Values of HONOR, COURAGE and COMMITMENT through the use of historical boats, equipment, and weapons. These tools are used to build teamwork and leadership skills that are applicable in modern life. Many members of the Naval Heritage Society are active-duty and retired service members whose participation helps to forge an enduring connection between America’s past and her future.
