Greetings from Maine.
We're a family of 5 and in hopes of taking a vacation to Virginia this June. I have researched a couple places...but its very difficult to pick a place to stay when one in unfamiliar with the area. I have researched Great Wolf's Lodge and although it looks awesome it is too expensive for us.

We have an opportunity to rent timeshare points at Wyndam's Kingsgate which we are leaning towards. It has recreation for the kids - pool time/game room, full kitchen, washer and dryer. Curious if anyone would reccommend Kingsgate or anyother other condo type resorts. We are open to any advice.

Thank you.

Also looking at Woodlands - a "on site" hotel. Are the "on site" hotels "better" then others?

Thank you.

I really enjoyed staying at Greensprings Resort, but not Historic Powhatan Resort. The walls/floors at HPR are very thin and you walk across the floor with socks and they can hear you below. The first unit we were booked in at HPR had missing tiles in the bathroom, the curtains where hanging off the rod, the wallpaper was pealing, jelly or something stains on the carpet. I discovered later from one of my parents (I later got a teaching job in the school) who managed the place that they over book the resort and they end up putting families in the units that need remodeling. However, that didn't solve the thin walls/floors. When we were downstairs, we could hear conversations, the tv, someone in the bathroom, the dishwasher. When we were upstairs, we had the front office calling us daily telling us to quiet down (we were in to shower and go to bed and then gone again first thing in the morning).
Greensprings was wonderful though. Great for families and not as crowded as the other one.
I have not been to Kings.
If you do choose to stay at GWL, book one night and they will offer you a deal/lower price to stay another night. My brother and his family came out the 4th of July and booked a night in a suite for $450 (all inclusive) and they offered him the second night for $275, again the same suite (2 bedroom). I think the favorite part was getting the magic wand and going around the hotel to find clues.
I also know families who booked a little place/cabin at American Heritage Campground where the kids could swim, take part in the campground activities, etc. Or heck, rent our camper...lol..it sleeps 8!
Personally, I'd go for Greensprings.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out Greensprings...I recognize the name. A coworker mentioned Wyndham Kingsgate. Any thoughts on that place?

Thanks again.
