OK here's the last thing I'm trying to figure out. Last question tonight. Maybe. So here it is: Williamsburg seems to have about 12,000 residents and 6,000 pancake houses. What's up with that? Still trying to figure out if having a pancake house for every two residents just may be the Greatest. Benefit. Ever.

So what gives with all this pancake mania--college students needing a carbo load? Baby boomer retirees secretly smoking dope and needing late night munchies? (Hey, they have all those fabulous gardens--who knows what grows in some of them...) Tourists who just can't stand the thought of peanut soup and colonial chowder?

And a related mystery.... how did York County make the #5 spot for healthiest county if everyone there is chowing down on pancakes?

Two words: tourist town.

If you go to the ocean front you'll see a lot of breakfast places too. Venture to Norfolk or Portsmouth or Suffolk or Chesapeake and they'll all pretty much disappear.

Population is more like 85k when you add James City County, City of Williamsburg and Upper York County , all of which have Williamsburg mailing addresses.

As Coconut1 said this is a tourist area. Many years ago some Greek families decided that this would be a great place to open a restaurant. Others followed and today most of the pancake houses are Greek owned. BTW, quite a few give "locals: discounts.

So, of all the pancake houses, which one is best? Is there a locals favorite? I might as well try out the one the locals like.

LOL I do like the idea of pancakes that are astronomical. Hope they sell 'em by the pancake, though or I'm going to get so fat on this trip. Maybe I'll have to do a few extra rounds of walking the D.O.G. just to burn it off.

Never been there but I am friends with the owners grand daughter. He use to be mayor or something of Williamsburg? Granger is his last name.

Wow, grandpa was the mayor and owns the best pancake house in town? Now that's what I call a kid with good connections.
