Yea, looks fine to me.

Not my problem. Most companies would lay off their employees by this time.

401k is a scam.

We call this the ‘golden handcuffs.’ If you decide to start a family, you begin to depend on the housing allowance to make up for the low salary...and can't make the transition out. Civilian employers simply give you a salary and let *you* decide how to spend it (uniformed services don't have this)
To read between the lines, "Outside employers aren't willing to pay a high enough salary based on the skillset offered."

Yea, we need to get rid of the bankers and fake presidents that keep showing up in office.

Now, can we get back to whether Virginia Beach is THE city to raise a family?
You can raise a family anywhere. It's kind of a silly question.

I think I respect teachers more than military personnel. They work so hard and don't get paid enough. They're educating the people who are going to run the country when your in a nursing home unable to wipe your own ass

I'm so gonna blasted for that one.

hurley, are you neglected at home? don't get enough attention there so you have to make assenine comments here? moron....

however, you are absolutely right, teachers work very hard and don't get nearly what they deserve. neither do nurses and they keep people from dying. but i don't go to work and worry about a mortar shell blowing over my head.

What percentage of military people have to worry about that? It's 2009. Point and click, drag and drop the airstrike, let the robots kill the ones we don't like.

Who makes more? Day care or teachers? (serious) ?

t-monster, that's not exactly how it goes. i wish it were that simple, then my husband would be home instead of there. (2nd tour in not even 2 years...and he's reserves)daycare workers make crap. daycare owners probably make a decent buck. not sure about teachers salaries, as i am a piddly nurse, not a teacher.this has gotten way off topic...i've said my piece

ALso.... just remember you wouldn't be living in this country if there weren't Military men and women fighting for your freedom and country.

I think your comment is sad and pathetic.... both teachers and service members should be thanked and appreciated!!!!

A freakin' men! It's sad that our men and women are talked about in this manner to begin with. Those that mean the most never get paid enough.

But yes to the OP, Virginia Beach is great place to raise a family. It's a community of a lifetime supposedly, so it must be alright, I like it here most of the time.

mammamiab- no i was not neglected at home. I was actually pretty spoiled, but thats another post.

telemonster- agreed.

darzz- Bad rep? Nah. Anybody who takes advice or believes everything off the forum without actually seeing for themselves might make a huge mistake when relocating. I'd still be living in the US military or not even if the named changed. I never said I didnt appreciate the military, I stated previously that I did.

I suppose that I was trying to say that teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses...etc should be paid more because their jobs are just as important as a military personnel.

Sorry for the mishap. The end.

What percentage of military people have to worry about that? MOST, in Iraq or Afghanistan. They do still attack us there, including mortars and rocket attacks on bases.
