Aloha,Wish to relocate to Oahu for semi-retirement.Looking at the Leeward side, Maili beach area.Can anyone tell me about that area?Found a great little house just off Kaukamana St.Any info would be great!!!Mahalo

thats in waianae....one of the roughest areas of oahu.

if your looking to chill out on oahu for retirement in a nice area with nice beaches....i suggest north shore.

Mahalo, Have heard since Disney had purchased in that area,the city had started to really improve that area. Any thoughts about future improvement??

Waianae is not really as bad as some say. It is however a bad commute to the city. The area no doubt will grow in the future, and is starting to do that now.

There is currently roadwork expanding the H1 past the Ko'Olina exit into the Waianaie coast. There has been some effort to work with moving the homeless off the beaches from Maile, Nanakuli & Makaha. Its much improved from several years ago. I would say some areas are nice, some very sketchy... you really have to visit and spend some time to determine your comfort level. Weather & beaches are fabulous!
