Hawaii was the first state to legalize abortion in 1970, three years before Roe v. Wade.

Hawaii stands out on social issues because it doesn’t have a large Evangelical population and has a significant non-Christian minority.

Hawaii is about as liberal and reliably Democratic as New England—which is not surprising considering the cultural and institutional legacy of the missionaries from New England. And, like New England, does elect moderate Republicans on occasion, but they’re pro-business, Establishment Republicans, not hard-core social conservatives or Tea Party types.

Nope. Did not pass in the Senate. Connecticut was the first, Maine was the second, although neither will be in effect until/unless more states join them, because they recognize this action will raise the cost of food, and result in some producers simply declining to sell in the state(s) any more.

Here is another first from Hawai'i.

Hawaii is the only state to honor a monarch, celebrating King Kamehameha Day on June 11th since 1872. Kamehameha is known for uniting the Hawaiian Islands in 1810.ad

And its the only state to have a palace.

The ʻIolani Palace is truly beautiful. If any of you ever get a chance to take the tour, I'd highly recommend.
It blows me away that they used to let the original Hawaii Five-0 film inside the palace.
