And Hilo? OMG. 45 thousand is some kind of a big city? There are many more humans south of there in Puna with more people and no organization whatsoever.

Absolutely not. Remove the transient populations consisting of military and tourists, and you wind up with a parochial, small townish sort of burg. On occasion, I have seen an individual, for example in Kaimuki, and then spotted the same person in Pearl Ridge later in the day. It has happened frequently enough over time to dissuade any notion that this is a 'big city'.


What Oahu really 'is', is a small island situated and rather isolated in the middle of the central Pacific ocean. When thinking of Honolulu, think 'insular'.
