The people work at the Poke shop in Kona say "po kee", too. They don't pronounce the "e" as "ay", and they don't put emphasis on the second syllable. I figure they know how to pronounce it properly.

Both pronunciations of
poke are correct; however, "PoKAY" is the Hawaiian pronunciation and it means "to slice, cut into pieces, etc.," while "PoKey" or "PoKee" is the Pidgin pronunciation for dishes such as
ʻahi poke and
tako poke .
