Honestly, it drives me nuts sometimes.

And of course, written by a someone who uses the tag "SpamMAsubi" instead of the correct SpamMUsubi..........

The old guy behind the counter at my favorite poke shop says "po kee" and "pokee ahee" (poke 'ahi). Should I stop going there?

The people work at the Poke shop in Kona say "po kee", too. They don't pronounce the "e" as "ay", and they don't put emphasis on the second syllable. I figure they know how to pronounce it properly.

Both pronunciations of poke are correct; however, "PoKAY" is the Hawaiian pronunciation and it means "to slice, cut into pieces, etc.," while "PoKey" or "PoKee" is the Pidgin pronunciation for dishes such as ʻahi poke and tako poke.

Could someone please tell me how Waianae is pronounced correctly? I have heard it said two different ways.
Why-ah-nay or Why-ah-nigh or ...?

I've never heard it with a "nay" sound at the end.

That's mostly what I have heard as well. But then shouldn't it be spelled Waianai?
