Interesting article re Lipitor now available as generic, and Part D plans changing coverage for name-brand from prefered to non-prefered, thereby raising co-pay.

Insurance companies do sent out notices in advance when there is a change to the formulary. This article is an exaggeration.

Not sure if Medicare qualifies but for consumer driven health plans there is a preventative drug list that started Jan 1, 2013 that is part of the 100% covered preventative care under the ACA. The list is on your health insurance company website. Also, it's pretty standard practice that once a generic is available that the name brand moves to a more expensive tier. Ask your dr for the generic before your next refill. They can call it in for you.

That's what happened to my husband (in terms of his part D plan) - but he switched to the generic and currently pays about $24/month for a Part D co-pay. Thanks to the generic - we're saving money. Robyn

My compnay adoted the healthcare mendates october before last to be grandfather under the alw. No such chnages as preventive is in the mandated coverage I have seen. I fact because of increaseed cost of insurance with mandates my co=pays have gone up not down as well as premimums. The companies cost went up also. The only preventive care is treatment like physicals at interves and some payments to certain services such as stop smoking;wieght loss when prescribed etc.
