Thanks, I will be seeing a doc soon. I think I know what it is though, I think I got stung by a bee and the stinger was left behind and I just didn't notice it. I looked up pictures of a bee stinger and it looks like that-minus the pointy part. So fortunately no weird bug to worry about! Thanks!
Mail ithe pod to the entomology department at the University of Alaska. They'll either ID it at a glance and email you the ID, or they'll be fascinated by it and write back asking you more details about where and how you got it.
Doctors don't care. I passed a foot-long round-worm in my stool once, and put it in a jar and showed it to my doctor, and he said "Yeah, you wander around in Africa, and no telling what you'll get", and he threw it away.
