Like some of you know I've had some problems with acquiring ladies and new friends...
I've never felt comfortable in social situations etc and a few days ago I read about AS... And almost all of it seemed to fit in like a glove.
Now I've done some tests(6 to be exact), American, British and Swedish and all of them basically say "you likely have AS, you should get yourself checked out by a professional". (the American test said I was close to the risk-zone, the other 5 who had more specific and a larger quantity of questions pretty much scored a close to definite positive...)

So what does this mean for me?
Do anyone know males with AS who have been successful with women?
If I go and have it diagnosed officially, should I tell a woman I meet about it after a while(a couple of dates) or just be quiet?

First things first, go get professional tested before making that assumption that you have aspergers.

Could you have social anxieties instead? Being socially awkward does not mean you have aspergers.

Again, before you can diagnosis yourself, you need to go to a live person and see what's up.

Check into social anxiety too and see if that sounds about right for you.

Please see a professional. Those online tests are not reliable, and nearly anyone can find themselves falling into the category, especially if they take the tests with that mindset. A true asperger's diagnosis is not easy to get. I'm sorry, I just get very frustrated by posts like this, having a son with AS. It took years of testing by professionals - in person - at Scottish Rite, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, the Marcus Institute, and more specialists that I can name. Speech pathologists, neuropsychologists, etc. It's a complicated process.

Asperger's is not just about being socially awkward, or not fitting in, or level of intelligence. As Donie1 said, you may be dealing with social anxiety, or you could just be lacking in social skills.

I plan to get a time at the shrinks office as fast as I can...

Though social anxiety does describe a lot of the trouble I'm having, but I also do take particular interests in the way described as part of AS, like the thousands of hours I've put into reading on nutrition, weight-training etc the past couple of years, my almost obsessive interest in playing with "Lego" as a kid, and computer games and math as an adolescent.
I also see numbers and patterns everywhere, like if I face 10 cars coming down the road, I will see if for example the german brands fit the holes in between fibonacci numbers, 1 2 3 5 8 13, meaning the 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th and 10th cars are BMWs, VWs etc.
And always always always I try to see these patterns, especially in supposed places of chaos like dancefloors.

It doesn't even make sense to me why I do it, I'm just there and suddenly I see that for example 90% of all guys who enter the lunchroom have one hand in their pockets... and then I'll watch this subconsciously through the lunch-break, I'll have conversations or whatever but when suddenly too many people walk in without their hands in their pockets I'll directly notice that "damn my theory of pocket-hands fell"

How old are you? Do you work, live alone?

The reason I ask is because an AS diagnosis is helpful for those that are NOT functional, i.e. they have difficulties in school, at home, at work, with daily independent living, etc. Many with AS have executive functioning problems, which impacts their time management, organization and information processing.

IMHO, if you are an independent & functional adult, a formal AS diagnosis may or may not help you and I personally think you would be better served getting help directly for your social difficulties/awkwardness/anxiety.

There are some famous and extremely successful people who had or have aspergers. Bill Gates is one of the most well known. Albert Einstein also appears to have had it as well as Issac Newton (of course he couldn't have been diagnosed professionally in the age in which he lived). There seem to be different levels of this syndrome and the individuals I mentioned were obviously very high functioning people whose unique qualities were actually very beneficial to them. My nephew has been diagnosed with aspergers and he's just a young boy. Unfortunately it has manifested itself into inappropriate behavior and difficulties in school. He's developed this habit of slapping women on the rear end in public places which has led to some very embarrassing situations for my brother and sister in law when they're facing some angry women. I don't know how this might change as he gets older but he is getting help. I would just advise you to get a professional diagnosis and gain a clear understanding of your personal situation because first off you might not even have it and even if you do it could very well be a manageable problem and nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck.

I'm independent in the sense that I have a summer-job and I've gone through the first year of my engineering college-program with average results. I'm not the most coordinated person, sometimes a bit clumsy but I manage.

I've had some difficulties in school, as fast as i encounter a subject I'm not interested in I find it very hard to concentrate while working with it, like mental torture. I really have to force it even when it seems like something you should just do and have done. While when I'm studying something I am interested in I will understand most of it in a heartbeat, many times better and deeper than my classmates.

If the treatment for the social part is the same as for social anxiety it doesn't really matter that much to me which one I get treated for though, because the social part is the part that I really feel I'm missing out on.

Is it just me or are these online tests a way to get people into the doctors office and get pumped up with pharmaceuticals? I swear personality disorders are now chic and an easy excuse to issue scripts. I just tested high for Aspergers too on an online test. I'm thinking most people would given the general questions and allowing only for limited answers to each.

I really think most people have anxieties that are easy to peg as depression or any other social disorder. AS is the new depression it seems. Everybody claims to have it.

In short, pay no mind to this online testing crap. If you have concerns go see a doctor though make sure it's one that can be trusted, not a pill pusher.

I totally agree with what you're saying. I think because our society is fast paced and no social life that many are falling by the wayside and becoming socially awkward and lost.

I don't believe meds are the answer but sometimes to get yourself back on track, I do believe meds need to be taken and then get help with self-help books, exercise, whole food and vitamins.
