i use to drink maybe beer or 2 a night when I came from school or work just to relax and hang out. Over the past 3 months or so I really only have a few beers every 3 weeks or so and when I do, I develop 2-3 canker sores in my mouth a couple days after I drink. Has this ever happened to anyone or does it happen? it has happened 5 times so far and I'm afraid to drink now.

I don't drink enough beer to know the answer to this, but I do get canker sores with specific foods like fried foods, salty foods, etc. It happens very reliably. Beer can be irritating so I would not be surprised if that is a trigger. If it has happened 5 times already you can be pretty sure that beer is your trigger.

I worked with a guy once that would get canker sores whenever he drank anything directly from a can.

If you are drinking your beer directly from the can, try drinking it out of a glass instead.

It is worth a try.

SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) in toothpaste causes canker sores. Switch to a SLS-free toothpaste and your canker sores will be reduced by 90%.

I've never had one, and I'm a beer drinker so I wouldn't attribute it to beer.
