Why on earth does it take 2-3 weeks to deliver to a gynecologist in a large practice a medical appliance? The device is evidently a common one, they physician said that they can't keep them in stock so it will be ordered and my name put on the device when received. What the heck!!

The only "appliance" I can think of that a gynecologist would use is either a diaphragm or a pessary. Either comes in several sizes. They may just be out of your size. Delivery would depend on the distributor, but keeping an eye on stock should be the job of the nurse or office manager.

The other possibility is that they do not want to have a lot of money tied up in stock and just order them as needed. "Can't keep them in stock" may mean "can't keep them in stock for financial reasons." They don't want to keep something they may never sell in stock.
