Hello-
I have been struggling to find a good Dr. for the last year years. I had one Dr for about a year, and whenever I'd see her, it felt like it was the first time. I had to repeat my history and my concerns over. It was as if she was too busy to look at my charts before I came in and "winged" it.

The next Dr is my current Dr. I really like his personality; however, he seems to pass me off to specialists for almost everything. I have had trouble forgetting words, mixing up words and the like, and He told me I should schedule an appointment with a Neurologist. I was expecting a blood panel and to at least start at the Primary Dr level, instead of paying a bunch of money for a Neurologist who will have to run a blood panel anyway! Bump on my head.. off to the Dermatologist... ingrown toenail....need to see a Podiatrist. He didn't even address the the infection.

I kinda feel like I am test driving cars here... Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal? Thoughts? Advice?

I got turned down for a new Primary Care Dr - want to switch from current one. Well - turned down because my current one sometimes covers "call" for the new one I asked for. Dammit.

It's tough for me to advise because I work in a hospital and know most of the primary care providers in the area, to judge who (of those taking new patients) is the best. Have you tried asking friends or family? Anyone in the health care field who deals directly with MDs and can give you recommendations?

No, I am new in the area. I have used ZocDoc, though.

I have been looking for a new primary care doc. I went online and found a group of docs that I liked, but how to "test drive" them? But then last week I needed to go to an urgent care clinic. These docs have a walk in (urgent care) clinic as well as their scheduled appts. I saw one of the docs, she treated me - and I liked her enough that I'll probably now use her for primary care.

Sometimes there are ways to "test drive" a doc!

I've had some luck using a combination of the above: online reviews + test driving. I'd use more than one online review site, though. Also try Healthgrades and RateMDs. Does your insurance have a website/page that allows you to search for doctors? Sometimes there are reviews as well. After picking out a doctor that you like (who takes your insurance), see the doctor for an appointment. If you don't like him/her, move on to another one.
