Vitamin C and Zinc won't do squat for the flu. You're better off eating a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. Zinc does work (and is proven to work) for colds. Sambucol is supposed to help flu symptoms. They have been pretty food with identifying strains 16 of the past 19 years. This Brisbane strain came later in the year.

I think it's good that kids receive the vaccine. These tpes of epidemics usually start with children who like to share things and put things in their mouths and noses.

Ah, I'll have to look into Sambucol... I have not heard of it. I know that our health food store sells Occili... something. I can't think of the whole name right now, but that is supposed to lessen the severity of the flu. Zinc and Vit C boost your immune system to begin with, but no, they won't cure the flu once you have it.

Nope, didn't get one this year. I work in a hospital so they try to push everyone to get the flu shot. The shot is supposed to be "voluntary" for employees who don't come in contact with patients, but they made me fill out a form with my name and the reason why I refused the shot. I should have wrote "none of your damn business".

In the past 23 yrs I have probably missed getting a flu shot 3-4 times. I have never gotten the flu in all of that time. I had a liver transplant 23 yrs ago and I am supposed to get a flu shot every season.

Occili contains extract from duck or goose livers and there is no data to back up its effectiveness.

GNC can be ordered online or purchased at GNC.

If I had immunocompromised children or members of my household, then I might feel differently.

We do take extra vitamin C and zinc during cold and flu season, and wash our hands often.

Washing hands and getting plenty of rest are probably the best preventatives. Plenty of rest to keep your immune system functioning well...
I have never gotten a flu shot and haven't had the flu since I was a little kid - looooong ago

Cool Yes on getting flu shots

John:
Being married to a retired RN I have my own in house medical encyclopedia.

She firmly believes that washing hands often, keeping fingernails clean, not touching your eyes or nose until you wash all work together with keeping the immune system healthy...and yes, we both get flu shots every year.

Haven't had the flu since we were married 13 years ago so go figure

No. I've had the flu shot only once, and got the flu about a week later. I've never felt worse. I've never had the flu since, and I work with kids. I don't trust the flu shot or the pharmaceutical industry. I do all kinds of holistic/homeopathic things to stay healthy.
