UPDATE - March 2023

I've now been prescribed this for my cough:

1) Montelukast Sodium tablets 10mg

2) Also a nasal spray, generic for Flonase.

Anyone know anything about these meds please? TIA.

Montelukast (Singulair) is an anti-inflammatory medication that can treat allergies and asthma. You have to take it in the evening before you go to bed.

Flonase (fluticasone propionate) is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and suppresses your immune system. It can also be used to reduce but not eliminate nasal polyps.

Flonase is a steroid. It may increase cataract risk.

This is from the FDA document with the 2019 update advising physicians on page 15 to inform patients about the risk of cataracts and glaucoma.

https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugs...121s045lbl.pdf

"Inform patients that glaucoma and cataracts are associated with nasal and inhaled corticosteroid
use. "

Many thanks to you guys!!! You tell me more than these doctors do! If I was able to rep you, I did so!

The mysterious lingering cough continues.

I did a PFT (pulmonary function test) & all came back normal there. I don't really like taking those tests. Only took 1 before in 2017. It made my cough worse again, so I hope it dies back down. They only replace the mouthpiece, so I hope they sterilize all those tubes that everyone breathes in/out of!

You have mentioned throat clearing and spitting in the past. Both of those with coughing can be caused by post nasal drip from nasal polyps, and you won't necessarily know they are there. I don't recall if you have seen an ENT but a CT scan or endoscopy might shed light on whether a sinus condition is involved, especially if you have had any sinus symptoms.

These Montelukast Sodium tablets don't seem to help. I haven't started the nasal spray yet. The past 2 meds helped much better.

Thanks. No, I've never yet gone to an ENT about this.

I suggested she consider seeing an ENT last year in one of her threads. I have similar symptoms, but mine is from acid reflux.

The ENT scoped me, they even did a vocal cord and swallow tests. I also had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy where the GI doctor found acid in my stomach.

I don't have regular acid reflux symptoms, just this nagging cough every now and then that brings up mucus.

I originally saw an ENT because I woke up one morning in 2021 feeling like I had cancer in my throat, it felt like a nut was stuck near the base of my tongue. My hub had oral cancer which it's possible I could also get. His was HPV positive, he gave me the same strain of HPV. I get checked by my gyno to make sure that my body is fighting it verses letting it turn into cancer. HPV 14 or 16.

The ENT had sent me for an ultrasound then CT scan of my throat to be sure there was no cancer there.

These Montelukast Sodium tablets are doing NOTHING for my cough, in fact, it seems I've been worse. This past Sunday, I must have coughed quite a bit because my throat was sore the next day. I just started the nasal spray yesterday (about a week after the tablets).

I have another appt first few days of April.

Coughing involves the throat so it makes sense to see an ENT for a persistent cough, especially when other doctors haven't solved it.

Default Another Update

Another Update (April 19, 2023)

As mysteriously as it came, my cough seems to have disappeared for the last 2-3 wks. I didn't take any more meds, nothing else differently, etc.
