I found simple exercises to be a miracle cure for sciatica from lumbar disc disease. My doctor wanted to give me steroid injections and also recommended physical therapy. I suggest just doing the PT, and see if that worked by itself. It did.
I went to PT two days a week for six weeks, basicly they just guided me through exercises designed to strengthen the small, rarely-used muscles around the lower back, and to improve my posture. I also did the same exercises daily at home, which take about 30-40 minutes, and they don't even work up a sweat or raise my pulse. Very gentle exercises. After two months, I am almost completely pain free, and I'm back to all my normal lifestlye routines.
You can google the basic exercises, like at spine-health.com, which will not necessarily be the same as the ones I did, but it is certainly worth a try, in preference to any other kinds of treatment.
i agree! after having my son i still had back pain from sciatica for months. went to the doc thinking he would give me some kind of pill or something. instead he told me the truth, what i needed to hear and said i was out of shape, and if i got back in shape i would feel better. started exercising and just like you a few months later was pain free. he was right, i haven't had a problem ever since!

Depends.
I did PT and it made me worst.
We are all different; what works for one may not work for another.
The best advice I can give is if you hurt worst walking out and every time it's like that, time to stop.
Try Ester-C. The bioflavonoids in the product stop inflammation. I take 4000 to 5000mg a day. I no longer have sciatica nerve problems or allergies because of Ester-C! This is what I use:
