I've never had one but there are a few people I know dealing with it and they're just miserable. I've had it lingering for the last 3 days but it won't hit. I've been taking vitamin C, but is there anything else herbal/natural I can take to keep it from coming on? I prefer this to going to the doctor if I can help it.

Vitamin C is good. Take at least 2000 mg per day.

Zinc is also good for the immune system and to fight against colds. Take 30-60 mg per day.

Cold-eeze is also very good to ward off colds.

I gargle with Listerine if I think I might be coming down with one. Anything to slow its progression until your immune system can fight it. If I catch one( and I did in June on vacation), I drink alot of hot tea and put honey in it as well as swallow a teaspoon of honey after. Honey has anti viral and anti bacterial properties. Lots of vitamin C and the zinc losenges seem to speed up recovery.

Yin Chiao

>
Indications: This tea is based on the very popular Yin Chiao formula, which is likely the most popular and well-known formula for fighting cold, flu and sore throat. Yin Chiao is said to expel toxic heat and wind heat thus helping to prevent the onset of colds and also help the body to recovery quickly from upper respiratory tract infection. Yin Chiao is most effective when used in the early stages of (a cold or flu,) especially within the first 48 hours.<

I've only tried this once and i used this in conjunction with various other remedies and i did "beat" the cold/flu before it "got me" (last winter).
I can't swear by it but other people do.

Plum Flower brand is a good one and many health food stores sell it and you can also easily find it on-line.

You may have allergies and not a cold.

I got a nasty cold last week. It started in Utah and by the time I flew back home it was in full effect. Strangely last time I was out there the same thing happened but even worse. I was in very dry conditions with a lot of dust so perhaps that was a part of it.

Lately for work I've been driving a lot instead of flying and I noticed while flying I used to catch a lot of colds.
