Just got a cold and was wondering what other people do to help themselves! :

For me:

1. Take 2-3 (depending on the severity) cold-eeze lozenges on the initial day, 1-2 on the second, and third or until it's gone.

2. Drink a glass of orange juice on the initial day.

3. Eat a bowl of Hot and Sour Soup on the initial day.

4. On the initial day, about 3 hours before I usually go to bed, take a dose of nyquil.

Using this formula, my colds usually only last 48-72 hours with few lingering side effects. It's great!

I rarely get them now that my kids are getting older but when my throat starts hurting I pile on the Vitamin C (Ester C to be exact) and that helps a lot.

I used to use that, but it never worked for me. I always got a rash (though the pink grapefruit flavor tasted good! haha).

Cold-eeze works a LOT better for me. I already feel a lot better (got sick on Tuesday)...my only problem now is throat congestion/voice deepening. I'll probably get some mucinex before I go home today from work (also a favorite!).

When I feel one coming on, I load up on Vitamin C and fresh garlic.

I'll take a few extra cloves of fresh chopped garlic and toss them in some chicken soup or into some freshly made marinara sauce.

Honestly though I haven't had a cold in quite some time. I typically get a healthy dose of Vitamin C from the fresh tomato sauce I cook during the week and fresh bell peppers as well. I drink at least one glass of grape juice and apple juice each day too. A handful of red grapes each day as well. No supplements because I can't remember to take them anyway. I think I need something for my memory.

Drink lots of Hot water. Don't add any thing to the water. Trust me, it works. I only drink hot water.

One benefit of getting older is that you rarely get colds. Apparently there are a finite number of cold viruses, and by the time you reach middle age you have been exposed to most of them.
