We're talking over the counter mainstream medicine right? If so it's either Theraflu or Dayquil/Nightquil.
I absolutely hate cold medicines and will generally ride it out, or go the natural homeopathic/chinese herbal method. But if I still can't cope with symptoms and knock it out to deal with my day, these are what I'll take.

I just use pseudoedphrine. I know its supposed to be bad because meth labs use it and because its a very old medicine but it works a lot better than that phenylphenrine the new stuff. The new "safer" decongestants don't work any better than water. If you go to the doctor for congestion they will usually give you pseudoedphrine. The normal over the counter ones you don't have to sign for do not work they are just tylenol and phenylphenrine. Dexbromethane for coughing, pseudoedphrine for congesting and running nose, and alieve for fever and pain are best. But there is not any money inthese old medicines the decongestant is about a dollar a box. There is a lot more to be made with new patented medicines like theraflu. Tylenol is about the most useless medicine for pain alieve, aspirin, and ibuprofin work a lot better especially for fever.
I havent had a cold in a long tme ,maybe a few years at least. I use to swear by triamedic. I haven't seen it in a while so I don't know if they still make it. I have been drinking green tea for many years and taking a daily Mag. Cal. and zinc pill (400,1000, and 25 Mg)
Another thing to try is the Wellness Formula: big ol' horse pills that smell like old garlic, but they work.
