Workers in December found a time capsule by accident while trying to fix a water leak near a cornerstone of the Massachusetts State House in Boston, placed there in 1795 by two of America’s most famous revolutionaries, Paul Revere and Sam Adams, who was governor of Massachusetts at the time.
Yes just great. History that you can touch and feel. Would be nice to see a book on it showing all the items from the box. I read they want rebury it. Maybe it would be better for a museum??
It was actually uncovered once before in the 1840's and they put it back after adding some items. I think the current plan is to clean the items, display them in a museum for a time and then place them back in the time capsule properly preserved. The capsule will then be put back in the cornerstone for the future. No word yet on whether or not they will add items from today to the box. One idea was to put an iPhone 6 in a box designed to keep it from corroding. It would be loaded with various media like videos, pictures, etc.
interesting yes, but a bit disappointing.. i wish that it had contained more items. That box was tiny... oh well, beggars can't be choosers. I did see where they plan on burying it again but also that they were trying to determine is the newspapers can be opened up without damaging them. If so, i suspect they may keep one or two of those papers OUT of the box once they decide to rebury it..

Interesting background there. You know I wasn't aware of the 1840's material. And I'd think it wouldn't be off the mark to include items from 'today' in the box for the reason of highlighting 'continuity' in the nation's heritage starting from its inception.
I don't think they need to add any items to the box but think they can simply bury a second box (time capsule) next to this one.. seems to make more sense to me.. especially considering the size of this one..
You know also I wouldn't mind some reproductions of the items. Could be a help in pursuing the history and keeping it alive. I'm sure scholars are really intrigued with the artifacts.
If you were making up a time capsule for the year 2015, to be buried for 200 years, what items would you place in it?
How about the Constitution before it is gone.
