cavalry is just too fast, advantage of surprise as well and very skillful archers. they shoot thousands of arrows at you and break up the front line. then they charge, they are on a ****ing horse charging at you (infantryman) at full speed.

you are going to die.
While i agree with that assessment however military Dictator General Aetius and the Romans/Visigoths did stop and defeat Attila and his allies at the ''Battle of the Catalaunian Plains'' in France as Atilla would retreat eastward afterwards and never head west again.

Too bad Aetius didn't overthrow the emperor Valentinian III when he had the chance as the military and it's dictator ''may'' have allowed the empire to last longer than 476.

It would not have saved Rome, the harm was too great by the time of his rule to do so. The economic basis of the empire had collapsed in the West and could not be reasserted.

Horse archers are at a disadvantage to good infantry and shock cavalry west of the Hungarian plain. Terrain largely dictates weapons and tactics. And Polish Hussar armored shock cavalry dealt well with Tartar and Turkish horse archers.

I should have stated a militarized ''Roman Italy'' may have lasted longer than 476 as i know that the empire was long gone by 454 when Military Dictator Geneqral Aetius was killed by Valentinian

Anyway i honor the Imperial Guard Optila who enacted revenge for Aetius and murdered Emperor Valentinian on March 15, 455
