All of my ceilings are 12' high, none of them are tacky cathedral ceilings.
Hopes, I respect your knowledge on a variety of subjects. But to ridicule cathedral ceilings in such a tacky way, just because you dont like them, is rude and distracts from your advice.
We have Hunter ceiling fans in every room, except the kitchen & baths as well..We only have about two weeks of upper 90's, so no need of central air condition...
The longest lasting ceiling fans that I have ever bought were in our So. California home - I bought $60 white ceiling fans at Lowes (for the children's rooms) and the fans were still going strong when we moved 4 years ago....the fans were over 22 years old at the time.
On the other hand, our $500 Hunter Douglas Fan from Lowe's that we bought for our master bedroom in So. Cal (6 years ago)....well, that one lasted less than 2 years before the motor died. At the time of purchase, it was the most expensive fan that our Lowe's sold.
Interestingly, in our current house the ceiling fans are original to the house - so they are over 25 years old....still going strong. We use them every single day and night as they save money on cooling and heating because they help to more evenly distribute the air. We replaced one of them because we wanted a certain style fan but saved it because it still works.

They sure don't make fans like they used to. I wish I had my parents' fans from decades ago. Can't find anything as powerful these days.
