I've been trying to design my home with an urban, contemporary style, keeping lines as clean and uncluttered as possible. I have Venetian blinds, but now I want to add curtains to help block some of the light and maybe a little of the Texas heat. I have someone who will make them for me, I just need to choose a fabric and style.

I'm having a very hard time finding anything that keeps with my attempt at urban, contemporary, clean and uncluttered. Most fabrics I see seem taken from Pee Wee's Playhouse or the court of some long-dead royalty. Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way? Any suggestions or opinions are welcome!

I've attached two pictures so you have an idea of the rooms. The walls are two shades of gray. The ceilings are vaulted and white. The floors are a light blonde (bamboo) color. Furniture is mostly black wood. The main item of color is the red couch.

That aquarium is no longer there.

There will be more room between the window and the bookcases/scroll once I've rearranged.

Although I love the drapes that hopes posted I don't see drapes in your space. I actually like the blinds....whatever you choose do keep things short and neutral. Love what you have done.

I would do toppers, with a pattern. Not the straight across ones but ones that are more free form and have a drop of 18 inches or so, one panel for the smaller windows and possibly three on the larger window.

I think the problem is the existing blinds don't block out the light and don't offer any insulation from the heat in the summer.

Maybe getting room darkening blinds is the solution. room darkening blinds - Google Search

What about something like this? These are powered, but if you didn't want to spend that much money, I'm sure you could get manual shades in a similar material and look. Website link: vigtailored_powerrise_bathroom(3) « Window Fashion Views

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Please keep them coming...

I had planned to keep the blinds and add the curtains. Would that be strange?

Not at all strange, but keep in mind that curtains take you away from your contemporary look a little, but staying with contemporary patterns and colors (like what Hopes posted) would be the way to go.

If I were to suggest a fabric treatment, it would be something like this;

They can be lined with light and heat blocking fabric.
Gonna go rummage around and see if I can find some fabric choices.
Question; OP, I am reading the sofa as fuchsia on my monitor, is that correct?

I am unable to post a picture but IKEA sells curtain panels. They are flat panels that run on a track and are very clean and modern. I am posting the link below but unsure if it will open to the right page. Below the link is the only picture I could find on the web that would allow me to drop and drag. I wanted to give you an idea of what I am talking about. They would easily slide over existing blinds.

ETA: Sorry I guess the picture won't work. I added the link to where I found the pic.
