We have some guests coming from Europe to spend a few days with us. We have what I think is a comfortable guest room, but I wanted to pick your brains and see what suggestions you have for making their room and bathroom (and stay) as comfortable as possible.
We have plans for entertainment and meals, so I'm looking for your best ideas regarding what you keep on hand in the guest area of your home, and what items you consider important for comfort.
A clock
Good reading light
Live flowers, or live plant.
A fold-up luggage rack
Plenty of hangers and closet space
Extra pillows and blanket in the closet
A surface for computers or phones
Tissues
Wastebasket
We don't have a TV in our guest rooms, but probably our guests wish we did.
In the bathroom, I keep a good supply of hotel soaps, shampoo, shower caps, etc
Drinking glass
Depending on where you live, or the season, it might help to have a small flashlight available if the lights go out, or if someone needs to find a door or navigate a staircase in the dark. Also, a TIP jar (just kidding! Europeans think we are nuts about tipping).
I keep a basket in the guest room with little travel sizes of shampoo, conditioner, tissues, sunburn cream, Q-tips, toothbrush, toothpaste, lint roller (we have a dog), deodorant, flashlight, spot remover and whatever else I find that I think a guest could use. I like to have fresh flowers too and eventually we might put a tv in the guest room.
A hair dryer in the bathroom is nice. Most people have quit packing them because hotels provide them now. A nightlight in the hallway so they can see their way to the bathroom without having to turn on an overhead light would be nice too. If I have to turn on a "real" light to go to the bathroom during the night, it takes me a long time to go back to sleep.
Spare robes (my sister visits me each month & she loves that I keep a robe for her to use in her guest room closet)
Ample supply of easy to reach TP
Plunger (stayed in a time share condo & didn't know the plunger was in the vanity under the sink)
Air freshener spray in bathroom
I always keep a couple of new toothbrushes on hand, just in case. I am a little leery of a card with my password on it. Rather I have a laminated card that I keep and I give it to the guest and ask that once he logs in he returns it to me. I have had more than my share of problems with the computer and I am fiercely protective of that password.
