Huh, that grain doesn't look like oak to me, but I sort of like that "limed oak" - whereas I normally don't like oak, be it natural, whitewashed, pickled or bleached. Not all that wild about the bead board look portions, though.
Although the LAST place in the kitchen I would put real marble is behind the stovetop like that. And I wonder where the fridge is? The cabinets to either side of the stovetop look too small to be the fridge, unless there are actually two units, one on either side.
Hm. Doesn't bother me a bit. I'd switch out the white appliances with stainless steel and see how things looked, and I bet it would look fine. Those do look like good quality cabinets.
When we bought our house it was stuck in a time warp of 1997. It didn't have pickled oak cabinets - it had golden oak cabinetry everywhere. Now - we DID have all that professionally painted. I don't like yellowy oak and didn't like it when it first came out either. But in the right setting, I think pickled oak could look fine.
Actually, in the right setting, just about ANY color of wood stain or paint looks fine to me. I don't put a lot of stock in trends.
I think with a change in hardware and a darker countertop//stainless steel appliances (and yes I agree in the original photo, tha the wood floor tone does not mesh) it would look way more up to date. I am not sure what the proper name is for my cabinets, though they are oak and very light- but they are very good quality and I changed to orb hardware as well as dark granite and a few other updates(very nice backsplash as well) and I get compliments on my kitchen often.
I love it! Those are beautiful and they look like they're well constructed. I'd paint the walls pale aqua and run with the beach house decor.
