I fly a flag from a pole with a dawn to dusk light. I found a nice 3 x 5 USA made sewn flag on Amazon and replace it every year on Memorial Day. I pay attention to the news so I know when the State governor or US President orders it to be flown at half staff.
Many nations do not allow just anyone to display the national flag.

We display it on Federal holidays, election day, Flag Day and Vietnam Veteran's appreciation day.
My Dad, who was a WW2 vet (one of those who never talked about it), flew it every day during the Vietnam War. I was a smart-ass teenager and made a remark about how "square" he was by doing so. He used his "don't give me any lip, kid" voice and told me he had seen a lot of people die for that flag. I shut up after that.
I would feel obligated to follow flag code and my life is to hectic to make sure I have it down by dark, or the lights installed and timed to do it right. Plus I live close to the beach and it annoys the crap out of me when people just fly torn and frayed flags.
I do show my patriotic side when you enter my foyer. I have lots of flag and Americana decor on the walls, and red, white and blue pillows on the church pew.

I don't fly a flag, but in my area, while driving down
the road, I see a lot of folks displaying the Stars & Bars
from their porches, I get that stepping back in time feel.
Just moved into a neighborhood where a high percentage of people fly flags from the front porch. I love seeing this! It makes the neighborhood look so friendly and inviting. There's something about seeing flags that makes a house seem well cared for, too. Plus, a nice splash of color when the summer sun is starting to fade out the yard just a little.
