Do your houseplants that live inside get dusty? If so, do you dust them too? If the fake tree gets dusty Anything stationary in the house gets dusty including real trees/plants. So it doesn't seem like that's a reason to rule out fake ones that you never have to water and always look decent.

I haven’t ever seen a very convincing one. I vote no. You could buy a fresh real palm every year for 20 years for the cost of a good fake plant.

I agree. Most fake plants look fake. Except some VERY expensive ones ($500 and up)

Some ok looking :

I saw this at friends house and it was ok too:

That company sells other silk plants too and quite pretty centerpieces.

I saw a faux olive tree similar to mine in a Grandin Road catalog. Twice the price I paid and mine looks a lot nicer.

To answer Glass of Merlot. You might be able to lightly shower them off, as long as you completely dry them. The 'trunk' is some kind of lightweight resin material as far as I can tell, but it looks quite lifelike.

I think the olive tree is really nice and the price is good. I would try it and see. Like you said, you can always take it back.

What I dislike about fake plants, trees, and floral arrangements is that they are static.

Unlike real plants, they never change. It's boring. Same old arrangement of flowers. Same old leaves on the tree.

No dead leaves being replaced with new leaves of a different color green. No seasonal natural updating. After a while, I cease to actually see them, they are more like a lamp that has no bulb. It just sits there, day after day, never changing. No new life.

I'd rather not clutter up the house with dead imitations.

I had an expensive rose dogwood tree I purchased from Ethan Allen furniture to put into a corner of large dining room -- filled up the space nicely. Never dusted it and the dust was not noticeable since it was in a distant corner. When I got tired of it, I sold it on craig's list and it sold within two weeks, dust and all.

Had a fake ficus for a while.

Things were good until a spider moved in.

The web went from small to larger.

Then two webs.

Then covered in webs and spiders.

I smacked a spider against the adjacent wall, and about 10000 mini spiders came out, crawling on the wall. Scattering like roaches in the light. Only, they were moving slowly, but there was thousands of 'em. Then other spiders were watching me trying to flatten the spider babies. There was just too many of them. The other tree laden spiders mounted an offensive that night. I felt them crawling on my lips and cheeks when I was sleeping. They were crawling on my eye lids and ears. They began to spin webs over my face, back and forth, from ear to ear. Based on the layer of web material they spread over my face, it's a wonder I didn't inhale/asperate the web strands. Must have been millions of them. These spiders were out for revenge, for sure.

Anyway, that's what happened with my 6 foot ficus fake tree in the living room of my Oceanside house.

Lol ^^^^^ Lol!!!!
Vivid imagination!!

Artificial plants need frequent showers...

However:
Do artificial plants attract insects?

The short answer is that they do not. Rubber and plastic plants do not actively attract bugs or arachnids of any kind.

LOL....and then there's an urban legend about someone who brought home a giant cactus and once observed it sort of throbbing.....it was filled with tarantulas!!! that would definitely freak me out.
