Vinyl blinds have mainly sagged in my south windows. The North window vinyl blinds are holding out well, and because I have covered porches on my east and west sides of the house, they are holding out pretty good too. But they are not as nice looking as faux-wood blinds or wood blinds.
I see them in restaurants and offices all the time, and they work really well.
You should be able to get them from an independent Hunter Douglas or other window covering dealer.
We installed woven shades in our home, and they block the worse of the rays, but we also have an overhang over the windows. For direct sun and water reflection, I'd want the solar shades, I think.
I hate to be bound by a certain blind just because it blocks the sun, so here is what I do. I buy the highest quality off-the-shelf room darkening pull down vinyl shades from Lowes (they cut them to fit) and install them behind my window coverings. Then I use whatever I want as window coverings.....pull down the vinyl shade when you want to block out the sun and leave it rolled up behind the blinds when you don't need it.
I did this also, as the fancy shades I have, have a like woven mesh and have holes thru them...when the sun gets too bad in the summer I pull the darkners down to keep the room cooler. roll them all the way up, they disappear when I dont need them.
I bought Faux-wood blinds and and they wrapped and did not withstand extreme heat. paid a good about for them. I also looking for blinds that will stand extreme temperature.
I'm not sure how it would work in direct intense sunlight, like the OP suggests though.
