If you own a 2017 or 18 Honda CR-V EX or higher trim, you likely already know about the oil dilution issue with the 1.5L turbocharged engine. If not, you should google it for awareness.
I purchased my 2018 EX-L in May and had read about the issue when doing my research but didn't expect I would be affected since it seemed to be primarily related to cold weather conditions. In October I noticed that my oil had a strong gasoline odor but the oil level was in normal range. Around that time, Honda admitted there was an issue, and has rolled out a "fix" (not a recall) but it is limited to cold-region states. I went ahead and took my CR-V to Jerry Damson to go on record that I likely had the issue and they acted like they were unaware of the oil dilution issue and claimed mine was the first vehicle they'd seen to have the oil smell like gas.
So I'm curious if any other 2017/2018 CR-V owners have experienced this or if I'm the lone ranger.
You can check on the crv owners forum. I see a lot of discussion there. That doesn't mean it is a common problem though because people don't go to the forum to post their oil NOT being contaminated with fuel.
Just can't win with the new engine design, direct injection is still evolving. We have Hyundai's with the Theta II engine and the recall/burning oil issue.
Might go back to Toyota the next time-as much as they are boring and stripped down, esp when it is my wife's car. I am getting tired of checking her oil level and topping it off.
