You could always buy some fabric, get some no-sew tape, finish the edges, get some curtain rings with clips and make your own. Doing that would take little time and you could get something you liked. Otherwise, look for table cloths or sheets that might work---but depending on how long they really are.

I thought the same things as the poster you are questioning.
In my area, apartment = rental = can't make changes easily.

I'd go with fabric and make my own curtains. It's a temporary apartment, not a house. Buy a cheap, lightweight material at Walmart for $1 or $2 a yard. Use fabric tape (or neutral duct tape) to make a hem. Make a hem also at the top as well and slide the rod through it.

Personally, I'd leave the vertical blinds up and concentrate on the living room where visitors will be gathered.

For me, it would depend on the light coming in and who can look in.

The sill looks big enough. I would use a couple of folding screens (flat), shutters, or closet doors. I probably have a table full of tall plants that would work.

Like I said, depends on the light. Those are some fine windows Get a roll of brown wrapping paper, cut out some stars, and tape it over the lower half while you decide what to do.

How long are you going to be there?

really? those vertical blinds are disgusting. not only is one entire panel missing, they're dirty (stained).

if i have any say, and we're allowed, they're both going.

this is actually a great idea and one i never thought of. we're going for a "mid-century modern" look so i am not sure if the folding screens would clash with that aesthetic.

but what a simple and easy way of both blocking people from seeing in while still giving us that great light!

as for how long we'll be here? 2 years tops, but probably just 1.

We were never allowed to take down blinds or draperies in a rental.

I had a wall where I wanted curtains to cover it floor to ceiling and was able to use single, flat sheets. I hemmed them and used rods supported by J hooks.

Easy peasy and cheap. I think the flat sheets were $2.50 each at Walmart and ended up looking great.
