this is on the 2nd floor so i GUESS we have the option of having no curtains/blinds at all but that might be weird, esp. in the bedroom.

problem is, i am sort of on a budget and massive curtains can't be cheap. Ikea sells very cheap curtains but they're only about 98" long.

while i haven't officially measured these windows, they are at least 12+ feet.

any thoughts?

Wow, those ARE bad. It also looks like they have water stains along the bottom?? Do the windows leak?

I think you could get away with the same general concept but with better panels. Just search a major retailer like Target or Bed Bath & Beyond for long panels and hang them with a nicer tension rod so that the bottom meets the window sill and some light comes through the space at the top.

I loathe vertical blinds so I won't even go there. If they are in the bedroom you may want to just leave them.

Can you stand on the sill and estimate the height?

If you can't afford a measuring tape ,may be you should just learn to live with what you've got.

If they turn out to be 12', you can get 144" curtains at Curtainworks, and some are not that pricey:
144-inch Long Length Curtains

If they're just a few inches over 12', you can use the clip ring hanging method to get a few more inches.

You might be able to pull those sliders back all the way and then hang the curtains so that the sliders aren't visible. I assume you can't take them down.

Good Luck, new places are always fun!

why do you assume that? i haven't looked at them thoroughly but shouldn't i be able to just unscrew them?

Sorry, bad assumption on my part . I was thinking rental, and the landlord might not like that. I've never taken any down, so I don't know. Can't be too hard though.
