I've also heard about everyone liking their Dyson vacuum cleaners so before I commit to that much money I thought I would do a little more comparison shopping. There's a vacuum cleaner store down the road from me and they sell Miele(sp?) vacuum cleaners, made in Germany I think. Anyway, the model the salesperson showed me cost a thousand dollars! Of course she made it sound like it was worth every penny. haven't bought it yet, someday maybe.
One of the things I liked about it was it was so quiet. The one I have now is so loud that I don't use for too long at one time, rattles my nerves.
Do you know anyone who cleans homes/offices for a living. They'll have an opinion. The woman who cleans my Dad's office brings her own vacuum even though he has one in the office...can't remember what it is though...
Hi all-I wanted to see if anyone LOVES their vacuum. I need some recommendations. I have a subscription to Consumer Reports, but some they recommend, the reviews don't say the same thing. My friend has a Dyson and loves it, but suprisingly it's not on the top of the list for CR. I do have pets so one that picks up pet hair well is definitely needed.
Thanks for any advice!
all I have to say is Kirby ! Love it lasted longer then my marriage did . Got it 14 years go and still going . it is also has a carpet shampoo for it. My kids put to the test when they were little .
pennie , screws, toys , it eats everything almost .
I come from a long line of Electrolux owners... My grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles all received Electrolux Vacuums as wedding presents... even the ones from the 1930's are still going strong and they ALL use the same bag!

That's amazing!! They definitely don't make things how they use to. My mother still uses her toaster and mixer she got from her wedding in 1975! The mixer is that sweet 70's green color and the toaster has wood paneling, but they still work! I wish things were made that durable these days!
I agree, The thought of running out and buying new all the time was not an option. Items were made to last and last and you had the capability of obtaining a minor repair on an item...now it's throw it out and run out and buy another... I have a Kitchenaid food processor from my mom, dating to the late 70's or early 80's, its that dark brown and almond color...I keep it in a cabinet, but is probably over 30 years now and works like it's brand new! I won't part with it because the color is off...I love it...

Yep. We had a Kirby - it sounded like a jet readying for takeoff and it was causing me serious problems. I did a bunch of research back then (2001?) and it all pretty much came down to Miele if you were willing to pay the price. Quiet, powerful, dependable - and major league pricey. My nerves were worth it and I have never regretted the $1200 or so that we spent on that vacuum.
If noise isn't as big an issue for the OP then one of the uprights might be fine but I'll never go back.
