I too keep debating whether or not to stay with NextDoor. The first thin I do when I go there is scroll down through all the new posts and hide the ones I know are meaningless to me. Which is running about 98% of them.
NextDoor is fun to read when you are bored. Kind of like CD.
I had people writing about very large booms, sounding like explosions on July 3rd. They were convinced it wasn't fireworks because it was just too loud. Like...really...
Today somebody was ranting about the local grocery store always being out of stuff and she was collecting a list of names of customers who felt the same way. She asked people to PM her.
She had some plans to fix the problem she said.
Then somebody mention that the baggers were too slow and lacking common sense. To that I just had to say something. I informed her that the baggers were mentally challenged/delayed.. She never said anything after that.
On my Nextdoor, the most contentious posts are about driving. The people who think no one should ever drive over the speed limit do battle with the people who are angry when other drivers blithely slow them down from getting where they need to go.
My nickname for Nextdoor is Nextdog. Some days, half of the new posts on there are about dogs that are lost, found or in the shelter needing adoption.
You should do something fun like walk out the front door with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand Nerf gun in the other wearing a gas mask. Just the gas mask. It won’t be boring after that.
I tried NextDoor when I received an invitation. I genuinely hoped that I would meet my neighbors, because no one is friendly or talks to one another where I live. It’s very lonely. When we moved here, I guess I was idealistic.
All that was there were people trying to sell old junk for more money than it was worth. I unsubscribed after a few months.
I guess I’m glad that my neighborhood isn’t the only one like that.

I know my neighbors; I don't socialize with them. We help each other when we can.

You are fortunate. There are many old people in my neighborhood and they have to fend for themselves.
