I lived in a Trinity house in Philadelphia during college. They are small, narrow 3 room 3 story houses with built in wood spiral staircases. To get anything too large for the stairs into the upper floors you take out the window and pull it up.
If the presence of a spiral staircase doesn't increase your homeowner's insurance expense, it ought to. They are stupidly difficult to get up and down.
In the absence of a properly proportioned staircase (which would have been my preference) a hydraulic elevator would have been better. If you can't afford such in your nearly $2million home then maybe you should have used a little bit less of that Italian Marble in the foyer.
They don't even belong on a submarine. LADDERS are safer.
Yes, I hate them. Very scary going up and down, have to watch every step. We were given a "boutique" hotel room with one (going down to the bathroom from the bedroom) and after one look at that, we demanded to be moved. Disaster waiting to happen.
There's outside balconies and the loft area inside- plenty of ways to have access- it's just not a pick it up a carry up stairs.
Judging the layout in the pictures from both interior and exterior, I'd say yes that's the only staircase.
That may be why there isn't any furniture up there.

That "total" sq/ft probably included the pool house!
I was told by our most recent real estate agent that in Arizona, they're only allowed to state the bed/bath/sq footage of the main house without any outbuildings.
That said, if it's the law, I see it violated all the time.
Kind of disappointing that a house that expensive has a portable hot tub out back instead of an in-ground spa. But Robino's right: The house is very striking. With a couple of changes and a steep price drop, I'd consider it.
Has anyone on here seen the house in person or a copy of the floor plans? I’m not convinced there isn’t a back staircase to the top. I’ve seen (and had) back staircases in many a house, and most of them are not worth showing in the pictures. But they are functional for moving stuff.

We'll see it next week, if it's still on the market.
My house designer advised me against them, that they are more of a pain than the romance they provide. As such, the staircase up to the loft is a 3 sided rectangular one.
To each his own, I guess. I love when the stairway goes up from the back of the house, like from the kitchen or great room, instead of taking up a lot of space in the foyer. To me, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to access the private areas of a home with a huge stairway in the public area.
